The Public Authorities clause is known variously as the Local Authorities clause and more recently the European Community and Public Authorities clause. The purpose of the clause is to indemnify the policyholder against the costs incurred due to involuntary betterment as a direct consequence of compliance with a mandatory requirement in pursuance of a statutory requirement or authority following a loss.
