Valuation of fine art and antiques
This paper outlines the factors that a valuer may consider when placing a value on a piece of fine art or antique, including size, colour, condition, quality, rarity and fashion.
The contents of the paper are derived from a talk which was delivered by Matthew Coles MRICS at the CILA Conference 2007. Whilst there is no formulae to value antiques, readers will gain insight into the features which can influence valuations and therefore quantum in a claim. Reference is made to provenance, collectors and auction houses.
